Welcome to the Greenwood Trust web site, it used to be for the organisation based in Coalbrookdale which is just a short way from historic Ironbridge. The Green Wood Centre is an innovative interpretation centre for woodland management, coppicing, sustainable building and other sustainable technologies.

So this web site will have details of that organisation, as well as a blog with interesting home and garden content.

The Centre promotes sustainable living through a wood based economy by running courses in woodland management and related activities and making landscape furniture from local FSC timber. The site has one of the UK’s most energy efficient timber buildings and is now the national centre for excellence in the field of crafts and coppice.

The Green Wood Centre is home to the Ironbridge Woodland Experience which includes a ‘state of the art’ woodland hall, a vegetarian whole-food cafe, a retail outlet for coppice products, displays of coppice tools, coracles in all stages of construction and of course woodland walks around the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Access to woodland walks throughout the year.

Specialising in good rustic food with a focus on vegetarian dishes, which is home-made by us on site or sourced from local suppliers. In keeping with our own ethical code and principles, we have adopted a policy of sourcing produce that is high quality, ethical and where ever possible, local and organic. As a result our food is fresh, seasonal, interesting and delicious!

We deliver successful and popular Open College Network accredited courses in Coppicing, Hedge Laying, Coppice Products, Sustainable Woodland Management, Introduction to Small Woodland Management and Woodland Monitoring and Evaluation. We hope that we will be able to expand this portfolio even further to encompass other aspects of woodland management, green woodworking and social forestry. We also hope to deliver courses nationally and develop training opportunities in partnership with other agencies around the country, including the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales and the Sustainability Centre in Hampshire.
